The Kissing Booth by Beth Reekles

Lowdown: Elle is practically twinsies with her best-friend Lee (a guy) who has an extremely H.O.T older brother (Noah). Elle is a popular but extremely naive when it comes to boys. Noah is the boy every girl at the school is in lust with and every guy is afraid of due to his “violence addiction.” Elle and Lee come up with a kissing booth for a school sponsored fair for charity. Although Noah has always treated Elle like a little sister (right down to warning all the guys at the school away from her), when they kiss the fair things change and this is where the problem starts.

I really wanted to like this book.

And I did.

At first.

The tension between Noah and Elle before the kiss was both cute and PG hot at the same time.  The subtle ways Noah tries to fight his attraction to Elle.....

After the kiss is when the book goes downhill for me. Elle goes on a book long process of going back and forth between being attracted to Noah and denying it to herself and others. So…besides the random secret hookups with Noah, she doesn’t acknowledge him at all. And she treats that poor guy like crap. All that hunk has to do is show up and she’s all

So, why would Noah keep going after our intrepid Elle?

I just don’t see the story here. She kept the relationship secret from her best-friend because he’ll get pissed off since Noah isn’t good enough for her. But when shit hit the fan and everyone found out, it was still Noah’s fault and had to apologize?

I'm gonna give this story 3 stars but it’s really more of a 2.5.

Writing: Not bad. Needs work. The author ran out of things to say so she kept repeating:
            a) how hot Noah was
            b) how Noah likes to get into fights
            c) how Noah can get any girl
            d) how Noah etc. etc. etc.

Heat: Mild to medium (there was teenage sex but it was not descriptive)

Recommend: Sure. But read other books first.

  1. I thought Elle was a really annoying character she kept getting annoyed for no reason and to be honest Noah seemed like a nice guy. I don't no why he put up with her to begin with and she treated him like shit for no reason apart from the fact she was best friends with his brother I mean what the hell!

  2. I know, I know.... That the danger in reading Young Adult stories. I have to keep reminding myself that some of them do act like... a teenager. An unreasonable one. It can be really grating at times.
