Brody
has it bad. For a girl named Quynn. She’s sexy, funny, smart. She’s also his
older brother Gabe’s ex. There are against crushing on your brother’s ex right?
Even if he was a douchebag and cheated on her, there was still some sort of
code right? Brody was afraid that his dream girl would stay firmly entrenched
in his dreams.
Hayley
decides to take pity on Brody and help him get to Quynn (really hate that
name). She is their high school’s unofficial matchmaker. But after spending
time with Haylay, Brody finds himself liking a different girl all together. The
girl every guy in his school ignores because she is the funny, fat friend.
Okay…
warning the cutsey dialogue from Hayley, it’s a little
But the
rest of the book is a fantastic read. You can actually forgive it because even
though the story is told from Brody’s POV, you can tell that Hayley is crushing
on Brody hard and is fighting it tooth and nail.
The
way Brody slowly sees past Hayley’s defense mechanism (cracking jokes) and sees
her for the wonderful girl she is. The problem lies in Hayley. Although Brody
repeatedly asks Hayley out on dates, she refuses to see them as such. Because
there is no way a boy who looks like Brody can ever find a girl like her
attractive. She is who you spend time with until the girl
shows up.
Between
the struggle Brody goes through trying to figure out exactly who he wants and
Hayley’s refusal to see her own worth in their relationship give the book is
emotional heft.
At
one point when Brody didn’t come clean regarding his relationship with Hayley,
it was like
There
were also times Brody almost gave up on Haylay because she was so difficult to
convince
And
his brother Gabe……
